The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 2017 Citizen of the Year Award. The award is presented to a person who selflessly contribute to the Deer Park community without seeking honor or recognition. Nominations are due at the Chamber office Jan. 15. The award will be presented Feb. 15 at the Chamber banquet.

Several Deer Park citizens have made positive contributions to the community over the last 12 months. At the 2018 Deer Park Chamber of Commerce Banquet, the one who has made the most significant impact will be honored as Deer Park's Outstanding Citizen.

"There are people who give of themselves in our community," said Tim Culp, Chamber of Commerce CEO. "Then there are those who do it selflessly and those are the type of people who do things behind the scenes anonymously or don't want the recognition."

Culp said individuals who are nominated are people who have made a "positive, significant impact on the Deer Park community."

"The individuals who have earned this award truly go above and beyond the day-to-day acts to improve the community," he said.

Nomination forms are due to the Chamber of Commerce office, 120 E. Eighth St., Suite 2, by the end of the day on Jan. 15. The recipient of the Outstanding Citizen award will be announced at the annual Chamber Banquet Feb. 15 at Sylvan Beach. More details about the banquet are forthcoming.

Culp said a panel comprised of the past winners of the award chooses the Outstanding Citizen from the nominations. Past winners recipients include Susan Mele, TJ Haight, Melissa Harrison, Mary Ann Fox, Georgette Ford, Ralph Russo and Ryan Taylor.
