Battleground Golf Course to donate Friday's fees to DP Opportunity Center

Attention, golfers! If you’re looking for a chance to donate to a worthy cause following Hurricane Harvey and enjoy 18 holes, you’re in luck!

The Battleground Golf Course will be donating 100% of the green fees collected on Friday, September 15 to the Deer Park Opportunity Center, and golfers of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to take part.

According to General Manager Rich Earlywine, Touchstone Golf - the entity operating the course – made the decision to organize the fundraising effort to offer direct assistance to residents of Deer Park.

Son's challenges spark Hutcherson's passion for braille

Soon after Cheri Hutcherson and her family welcomed their son Will into the world, they learned their lives would change in ways they could never imagine. Through Will’s blindness, Hutcherson and her family have learned to see life’s lessons from a new perspective. His challenges have led the family to become active advocates for the National Braille Press.

The Deer Park business community united to show its support for Deer Park ISD at the annual Salute to Education and New Teacher Luncheon Tuesday. The event, hosted by the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce helped kick off the district’s convocation and teachers’ inservice in preparation for the 2017-18 school year.

Leaders reflect on Russo's legacy

A stalwart for community involvement and helping men break the chains of substance died Friday. Community leaders reflected on Ralph Russo’s life, humility and selflessness to Deer Park, its civic organizations such as the Rotary Club and The Wheelhouse. Services for Russo are set for Thursday.

DPVFD's Fill the Boot kicks off this evening

Beginning this evening, the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department’s will begin its annual “Fill the Boot” campaign, a fundraising effort to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

This year, the department will be present at several local businesses on Friday, Aug. 11 from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday, from 8 a.m.- noon. The entire Deer Park community is encouraged to stop by, visit with the department and make a donation.

“The Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department is honored to once again have the opportunity to partner with our community to raise money for the fight against neuromuscular diseases,” said Justin Crow, DPVFD Deputy Chief, Station 2. “We typically raise between $8,000 and $10,000 a year, and this is done by everyone coming out to help make the event successful. Please help us continue the tradition and raise money for a very worthy cause.”

Find a fur-ever friend at Clear the Shelter Aug. 19

On that day, the shelter will waive the standard $50 adoption fee and adopters will receive special packages including coupons for $200 in free veterinary services.

Fundraiser to help DPPD officer's daughter

The Deer Park Police Department is rallying support for the daughter of one of its own. Peyton Williams, the 2-year-old daughter of officer Brandon Williams suffers from sickle cell anemia. DPPD is hosting a barbecue fundraiser and blood drive to offset expenses.
