The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce and DPISD are seeking nominations of those graduates for the 2017 Felton F. Waggoner Hall of Honor. Nominations are due to the Chamber Feb. 1

35th Citizens Police Academy registration opens

The Deer Park Police Department is offering citizens an inside view of the inner workings of the department¸ procedures, training and techniques. Through the Citizens Police Academy, interested persons can learn the whys, whens and hows of DPPD. The course begins Feb. 23.

Council celebrates Malloy's 101st birthday

At its Tuesday meeting, Deer Park City Council and Mayor Jerry Mouton provided a proclamation honoring resident Bernard Malloy for his 101st birthday.

Malloy, a Pennsylvania native, was the owner and operator of Sparky's Cleaners, a Center Street fixture for years. He was joined at the meeting by family members for the occasion.

Rotary hears update from Parks and Rec

Fresh off a flurry of activity to end 2016, the Deer Park Parks and Recreation recently shared its next set of plans with the Deer Park Rotary Club. From Type B projects to hike and bike trails, there are projects in the pipeline that span the entire city.

Cat show set for Jan 28-29

Dozens of frisky furballs will be on hand at the 2017 Felines, Football and Fun Cat Show at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center. Cats and cat enthusiasts will participate in show competitions and vendors will be available as well. The show takes place Jan. 28-29 and tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for children.

The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for the 2016 Citizen of the Year Award. The award is presented to a person who selflessly contribute to the Deer Park community without seeking honor or recognition. Nominations are due at the Chamber office Jan. 13. The award will be presented Feb. 2 at the Chamber banquet.
