The Union Pacific Railroad Foundation has donated $10,000 to the San Jacinto College Foundation in support of student scholarships.
Twenty students have received $500 scholarships through this grant, which is the second from the Railroad Foundation in two years. Last year, the Union Pacific Railroad Foundation donated $5,000, which helped 10 students. The donation benefits San Jacinto College low-income students in Pasadena, La Porte, and Deer Park.
"San Jacinto College serves areas that are very important to Union Pacific Railroad, and we are proud to support its efforts in preparing students who will help our communities grow and prosper," said Raquel Espinoza, director of public affairs at Union Pacific Railroad.
Angela Vasquez, a student who received financial assistance through this grant donation, said, "I want to become an orthodontist. This scholarship will help me by providing financial assistance for my educational expenses and allow me more time to concentrate on my studies, so that one day I can achieve my dream of becoming an orthodontist."
"The Union Pacific Railroad Foundation has done so much for our students, and their impact will reach beyond each one, their families, and our community," said Ruth Keenan, executive director of the San Jacinto College Foundation. "We are honored to partner with them to support the dreams of our students. Their support puts our students on the track to success."
