City to begin flood debris pick up Aug. 30

Written by Staff. Posted in News

Residents of Deer Park are advised that the City’s Sanitation Division is now accepting flood debris, and such items may be placed for curbside pickup beginning tomorrow, Wednesday, August 30 at 8AM.

According to Sanitation Supervisor Ben Alexander, flood debris can include carpet, sheet rock, flooring, furniture, appliances and other items damaged during the storm.

“While we are not currently conducting garbage pickup, we are picking up flood debris and heavy trash daily, and we would encourage our residents to begin placing those items on the curb each morning by 8AM,” Alexander said. “The items do not have to be bagged or wrapped in any specific way, with a couple of exceptions..

“First, we would ask that if any refrigerators or freezers are placed outside, that the doors are either removed or taped shut so children or animals cannot get inside. Second, we ask that any window panes or shower doors be taped so the glass cannot break during pickup.”

Alexander also asked that citizens keep items from hanging into the street, so as not to create a hazard for passing vehicles.
