A Dabbs Elementary staff member was honored at a recent Deer Park ISD Board meeting for saving the life of a choking student. Building Operator Sandra Cabrieles is credited for turning a potential tragedy into a happy ending.
Dabbs Elementary Building Operator Sandra Cabrieles went beyond her duties recently when a student began to choke during lunch. When she heard about the student choking, she ran into the cafeteria to the child and immediately began performing the Heimlich maneuver.
Within seconds, she helped clear the child’s throat and remained calm throughout the whole situation.
She was honored as the January Deer Park ISD Board of Trustees meeting for her heroic efforts.
