Deer Park ISD Circle simple small 250BREAKING NEWS
Due to expected flooding and inclement weather, Deer Park ISD will have an early dismissal tomorrow, Aug. 25, according to the following schedule: Elementary schools – 1 p.m.; Junior high schools – 1:30 p.m.; High schools – 2 p.m.

All buses will follow the same routes, but drop-off times will be about two hours earlier than usual.

Additionally, the afternoon pre-kindergarten session at the Early Childhood Center is canceled for tomorrow, and all after-school activities for tomorrow as well as all weekend activities have also been canceled.

These decisions were made to provide families and our employees extra time to make travel plans or prepare their homes for the high winds, rain, and flooding expected over the weekend.

DPISD continues to monitor Hurricane Harvey and its potential impact on our area. We are in routine contact with local emergency officials and neighboring school districts.

A tropical storm warning and a storm surge watch are in effect for the Houston-Galveston area. Harvey has slowed its progress toward the Texas coast, and landfall is now expected Friday evening/early Saturday morning near Corpus Christi. Meteorologists warn that Harvey could pose an extreme flood threat because it is slow-moving and could stall over southeast Texas.

At this point, it appears that strong rains and flooding could begin to impact our area Friday night. If the storm stalls as expected, it could continue to cause flooding in our area over the weekend and into the first part of next week. Thus, there is a possibility that it could affect school Monday and Tuesday.

DPISD will immediately share any decisions regarding school cancelations or delays using our Skylert parent communication system. Updates will also be posted to our website, www.dpisd.org, and social media accounts. These decisions will likely be made late Sunday or early Monday, depending on the latest conditions.

If you have not already done so, please log into your Skylert account and verify that we have your current home and mobile telephone numbers as well as your correct e-mail address.
