Deer Park ISD closed Monday & Tuesday

Written by InsideDP.com Staff. Posted in Schools

Friends and neighbors of the DPISD community:

We hope that you and your family remain safe as Tropical Storm Harvey impacts our area. Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of the Texas central coast who faced the worst of the storm as well as anyone in our area whose family or property was affected during the past few days.

School is canceled for Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 28-29, for all DPISD campuses, and all District offices will be closed.

This decision was made with the safety of our students and employees in mind. We encourage everyone to stay home if possible and continue to make safe decisions. There is a strong possibility that Harvey could continue to affect our area through the week with significant rain and flooding.

We will issue updates over the next few days as new information becomes available. Thus, it's important that you monitor your email, telephone calls, and DPISD social media.

We have already received questions about whether or not the District will have to make up instructional days missed because of Harvey.

At this point, it is much too soon to tell. School districts must include bad weather make-up days in their calendars, and it's possible that the state could require districts to use those days before any waivers for missed days are approved. We will certainly inform parents once we have more information.

Thank you, and be safe.
