For the first time in the program’s history, the Deer baseball team is state champions. The Deer fended off Southlake Carroll and San Antonio Reagan to earn Texas high school baseball’s highest prize at the state tournament in Round Rock over the weekend. Four Deer players were also named to the all-state tournament team.
After a 3-2 victory over Southlake Carroll Friday afternoon, the Deer will play for the state championship Saturday in Round Rock. The state championship game against San Antonio Reagan is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. FOX Sports Southwest will brodacast the game on television. For the first time in 27 years the Deer baseball team has clinched a spot in the state baseball tournament with a dramatic extra innings 2-1 walk-off victory over Ft. Bend Travis. Deer Park will play Southlake Carroll in one of two state semifinal matchups at 4 p.m. in Round Rock Friday. The winner will play for the state 6A title Saturday.
The Lady Deer softball team’s quest for a third state crown was cut short Friday with a 5-2 loss to defending state champion Keller. Deer Park the season with a 38-7 record and its third Region III championship in the last six years.
For the fourth time in the last six seasons, the Lady Deer softball team is heading to Austin for a shot at the 6A state title after sweeping Katy 6-5 and 4-3 over the weekend. Deer Park will face defending state champion Keller in the state semifinal Friday in Austin at 3 p.m.
The Deer baseball team is one series win away from a berth in the state tournament following a 5-2 victory over Ridge Point. The win sealed a 2-1 series win and placed the Deer in the Region III baseball finals for the second consecutive year. Next up for the Deer is Fort Bend Travis.
