From humble beginnings as a radio dj hopping across the country to becoming the driving force behind the country music radio surge in the 1970s, Bill Bailey led a life as grand as Texas. The radio personality and former Pct. 8 constable died Thurday at the age of 78.
The Harris County Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management (HCOHSEM) hosted a county-wide exercise at NRG Center on Tuesday, July 25, to test and train on Point of Distribution (POD) operations.
This full-scale exercise focused on the recovery phase following the landfall of a category 4 hurricane. The exercise helped assess coordination and communication between local partners, operational areas and the Harris County Emergency Operations Center.
“The exercise was developed for staff and partners to learn about the POD plan in place following a disaster,” said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. “Drills and exercises help work out any kinks, so that during an actual event operations run more smoothly.”
For their part in helping a man with a serious medical condition, several first responders and citizens were honored before Deer Park City Council Tuesday evening. Although the elderly man died five days later, the group is credited for giving his family precious extra time with him.
Deer Park City Council will meet Tuesday evening for its regular worskshop and meeting. Its regularly scheduled workshop is at 7 p.m., followed by the regular agenda meeting at 7:30 p.m. Both take place in council chambers in City Hall, 710 E. San Augustine.
From sports fields to the stalled renovations at Dow Park, new Parks and Recreation Director Charlie Sandberg provided an update on ongoing projects. He was the speaker at this week’s Deer Park Rotary Club luncheon meeting.
After decades at its location on the far northern edge of Center Street, the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce announced it has sold its building to Romco Manufacturing, located next door. Beginning Aug. 1, the Chamber will operate out of the JSC Federal Credit Union on Eighth Street and Center.
Deer Park City Council will meet Tuesday for its regular workshop and agenda meeting. The evening begins at 5 p.m. with a joint meeting with the parks and recreation commission. The workshop begins at 6:45 p.m., followed by the regular council meeting at 7:30 p.m. During the regular meeting, council will honor the state champion Deer baseball team.
